The Importance of CCD Readout Smear in Heterodyne Imaging Phase Detection Applications
نویسندگان
چکیده
The effects of CCD readout smear on images acquired with a Frame Transfer type sensor are well understood. Manufacturers try to minimise the problem with ever increasing readout clock rates, and consequently the smear effect is of level low enough as to not be visually noticeable. However, when images are acquired for scientific purposes, such as phase determination of a time varying image, this low level of readout smear can become a problem. This paper illustrates the extent of this problem for a heterodyne range imaging application and discusses possible solutions. Furthermore, the solution of de-smear post-processing algorithms has been implemented in the range imaging application, and results showing a substantial improvement in accuracy are presented.

All first-generation large-scale gravitational wave detectors are operated at the dark fringe and use a heterodyne readout employing radio frequency (RF) modulation-demodulation techniques. However, the experience in the currently running interferometers reveals several problems connected with a heterodyne readout, of which phase noise of the RF modulation is the most serious one. A homodyne de...

A new heterodyne nano-displacement with error reduction is presented. The main errors affecting the displacement accuracy of the nano-displacement measurement system including intermodulation distortion error, cross-talk error, cross-polarization error and phase detection error are calculated. In the designed system, a He-Ne laser having three-longitudinal-mode is considered as the stabiliz...
متن کاملDevelopment of a new EM-CCD based X-ray detector for synchrotron applications
We have developed and successfully demonstrated a high speed, low noise camera system for crystallography and X-ray imaging applications. By coupling an EM-CCD to a 3:1 fibre optic taper and a CsI(Tl) scintillator it was possible to detect hard X-rays. This novel approach to hard X-ray imaging takes advantage of the low equivalent readout noise performance at high pixel readout frequencies of E...

Introduction: Measurement of the complex 3D radiation dose distribution created with advanced radiotherapy techniques such as IMRT and SRS became very important. Polymer gel dosimetry (PGD) is proposed method to recording this dose distribution. MRI, X-ray CT, ultrasound, spectrophotometry and optical CT scanners can be used for readout of Polymer gel dosimeters. Although MRI i...
